TROUBLESHOOTING

1) My content won't play.
If you are using an older Netscape browser, you may want to try Internet Explorer or Firefox. If you are using Netscape Navigator 6.0, try clicking on the player's video screen.

myFOXdfw.com's streaming video uses a Windows Media Player plug-in to deliver video. When video won't play, ensure that you have all codecs needed by re-installing or upgrading Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player also requires that your browser accept a third-party cookie in order to start the stream. Check the settings in Windows Media Player, your browser and any spam, firewall or virus software to make sure cookies and streaming media are allowed. See also, My audio will play but my video won't.

In some cases, network congestion could cause the player to time out; refresh or reload the browser, or try again later when the network is less congested.

2) I can play content from some sites but not others.
The content is likely being blocked by your browser's settings, a firewall that that blocks video or has not had the appropriate ports opened for use with video or you're computer's spam or virus software. Make the computer administrator allows myFOXdfw.com streaming media in the settings for all listed above.

3) My content plays, but there are a lot of pauses or the content suddenly stopped.
You are probably experiencing network congestion, meaning there is not enough available bandwidth to stream the selected file. This may clear up on it's own. Try a lower bandwidth stream, if one is available. Another option is to use UDP as your protocol by opening Windows Media Player and the advanced properties menue ensure that it is the only protocol option selected. This will reduce the amount of buffering.

4) My content plays, but the quality is poor.
Content served by Windows Media is created for specific bandwidth ranges. If the content is created for 56 Kbps connection but Internet traffic is heavy, the server will start to drop frames. Streaming video is not TV, don't expect the same quality.

5) My video has random flashes of pink or green, or has spots.
This problem is usually associated with certain video card drivers that have difficulty with some direct draw features that the Windows Media Player utilizes. Try updating the drivers.

6) My video appears squished or stretched.
This problem occers with Windows Media Player 11 and Firefox 2 or higher. To restore proper video demensions, either view the video in Internet Explorer, download the IE tab for Firefox (recommended) or download the latest Windows Media Player plugin for Firefox.

7) My audio will play but video won't, or video will play but audio won't.
When just the video plays, make sure that your PC has a sound card and speakers to play the audio. Make sure your sound card's drivers are up to date. However, in some cases myFOXdfw.com's streaming media does not include audio.

Windows Media Player also requires that your browser accept a third-party cookie in order to start the stream. When audio plays but the video won't, it can sometimes be a bandwidth issue. Streaming media players often drop the video frames and play just the audio where bandwidth is not large enough for both.

8) I can hear audio, but it hisses, pops, sounds scratchy, or sometimes drops in and out.
Talk to your administrator. Incorrect sound card drivers may cause problems with compressed audio. Network congestion can also cause the audio to drop in and out. Refresh or reload the browser window, or try again later when the network is less congested.

9) I see a message about a plugin. How can I download one to get my content to play?
Some browsers require certain additional files in order to stream media online, especially recently installed browsers. In most cases, re-installing Windows Media Player will also install the necessary plug-ins. Re-install or upgrade Windows Media Player by clicking here. For Firefox, click here to download the latest Windows Media Player 11 plugin.

10) Will I be able to download or view this content on myFOXdfw.com later?
In most cases, no. Live streaming media will be available for the duration of the event. However, myFOXdfw.com may upload some highlights or video clips after the fact as space and bandwidth permit. No video is available for download on myFOXdfw.com.
